$50k Raised for Breast Cancer Fight

Bob Gaudreau is Executive Vice-President Sales and Marketing, Regus. Bob led Team Regus at the October 15, 2011 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure.

Well the big race is now over and what a great day it was. We had great weather and great company and an absolutely amazing event. First things first — I finished the race and had a acceptable time of 35:57. That is two minutes longer than last year’s time and three seconds under 12 minute miles for those of you who keep track of such things. That qualified me to place 548th out of the timed field. That may not sound great, but it’s not that bad for a 50-year-old and I did manage to pass quite a few folks. But … next year I may have to golf “for the cure”.

I was joined by seven colleagues from Regus including Sharon, Charmaine, Nicole and Elyse, together with the men from the call centre David, Micah and Phillip, plus with their wives. Together we ran and walked to raise over $50k for a very good cause. In fact, Regus, raised the second highest amount of money in Dallas, behind only American Airlines. I have to tell you that this experience was better the second time and I was lucky enough to have a terrific running partner named Monica who kept me going when I felt like stopping to walk.

$24,730 is the amount of money that I have raised so far in my fundraising efforts. It is twice as good as last year but unfortunately I fell $230 short of my target. If you would like to help me reach $25k, there is still time to participate and donate for the next week or so.

Please go to my donation page dallas.info-komen.org/goto/bobrunsforthecure and then click on “Donate to Bob”.

So what do all these numbers add up to? 1 amazing experience. Thanks to all of you who have supporting me so generously. You have done a great thing and will affect the lives of hundreds of women.

For me … whatever I have given to this effort, I have received so much more in return. I have once again met new friends, reacquainted with old ones, had a chance to improve my own health. Most of all, we all have had a chance to make a difference to the lives of others.

So … thank you to all for your support.

regards,

Bob

It Only Takes 5 Minutes to Save a Life

As we’ve blogged about before, Bob Gaudreau, our very own Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, is training for the Dallas Komen Race for the Cure, which takes place in just less than two weeks from now.

He’s been training hard but has recently hit a major snag. Read his note below and then if you are able to help motivate him — please, please sponsor him, right here

All,

Two weeks to go and we have two big problems we need to sort out.

1st Problem — I am only halfway to the goal of raising $20,000.  To help out or to see current donations simply click here http://dallas.info-komen.org/goto/bobrunsforthecure and then click on Donate to Bob.  Time to stop waiting and “Just do it”.  All proceeds go directly to help with prevention (screening or education) or to help cure woman with breast cancer. Please do not wait. It only takes 5 minutes to save a life.

2nd Problem –- I have been travelling for the last week and unfortunately had back spasms all last week while I was in Geneva. That meant no running. The truth is that for the last five days I have had difficulty in even in standing up.  So … I have two more weeks to get my back to a point I can run or at least walk, otherwise I will be “crawling for the cure”.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated for your generosity. It is very much appreciated.

I hope to get back on track this week.

Take care,

Bob

Why’s Bob so passionate and prepared to put himself through so much pain to reach his goal of competing in the race? Check out this YouTube video from last year’s event:

Bob’s Extreme Makeover

“So… it is time to start training again. Unfortunately, I have enjoyed myself too much (my friend Sam Adams is to blame) and gained 15 pounds since the race last year. Therefore, I now need an extreme makeover to get rid of this weight over the next 45 days.

“I had planned to start training again this weekend but thanks to Hurricane Irene the power was out in my building so no treadmill! I don’t just plan to take part in this year’s Komen Dallas Race for the Cure — I plan to finish and finish strong.

“You can help by joining the team and running along with us. Visit Join Bob’s Team on the donations website http://dallas.info-komen.org/goto/bobrunsforthecure if you would like to run.

*** UPDATE AUG 31 ***

The power, off for the last 3 days thanks to Irene, has come back on in my building so from tomorrow I’ll be pounding the treadmill each morning at 6am!

*** UPDATE SEP 06 ***

“I Trained hard yesterday on Labor Day. One small problem, only managed to get to 3k in 24 minutes and then had to walk. Got some serious training & dieting left to do. We live in Hope”

Bob Leads The Regus Lifesavers

Friends,
I need your generous support … again. Last year we did an amazing job and had an incredible experience taking part in the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure.
As a team, the Regus lifesavers were able to raise over $50,000. Through the efforts of Regus (and others), we helped to provide more than 6500 screening mammograms which led to the diagnosis of breast cancer of 92 women; we were also able to provide more than 1,080 women with breast cancer treatment and saved five families from foreclosure while their loved one fought breast cancer.
This year … I will take part again along with many other Regus employees. Our goal is to raise a total of $100,000.
My personal goal this year is to raise $20,000. Please make a donation to help me reach that goal. Online donations are simple and require 2 minutes of your time and a credit card. Please go to my donation page http://dallas.info-komen.org/goto/bobrunsforthecure and then click on Donate to Bob make a tax-deductible donation.
Sincerely,
Bob
