Today at the British Library in London, Transport Minster Norman Baker announced the formation of the Anywhere Working Consortium. The consortium will help British employers understand the benefits of providing flexible working environments and to enable employees to access the tools that they need to work in a more flexible way. The founding members of the consortium include Microsoft, Business in the Community (BITC), Nuffield, Regus and Vodafone UK. It also has the backing of organisations such as Transport for London (TfL) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
We think Anywhere Working will be a great platform to provide better support to UK businesses in terms of how they can make new working practices benefit them and their employees – similar to the concepts we have been talking about for the last couple of years with The Hybrid Organisation. Following a planning period throughout November and December, the consortium will launch an online hub of resources for businesses in January 2012, which will include training, trial technology and best practice case studies. This will be followed by a series of interactive events for employers and employees during Anywhere Working Week, which will take place in February 2012.
